Columbus Dispatch, July 26 - Columbus-public-schools-food-service
This was an issue I worked on for years. The loss is not really a loss, it is mainly due to students using other students lunch codes - and the parents not wanting to pay for lunches their students never ate. The lunch system that tracks the student / lunch charges did not interface at all with CCS student systems, and the MIS department and the Food Service department did not play well together - this mainly being the fault of the ever ready to fail management in CCS-MIS. Sysco dropped their school lunch contract with CCS a couple of years ago when they had to eat a $500,000 loss. Doesn't look like things have improved.

A story from the Akron Beacon-Journal. Surprise! The new budget awards much more money to David Brennan's low performing Life Skill's centers, and cuts per pupil allocation to the high performing charters.
This is what we get when a person that makes hefty political contributions is allowed a say in how budget money is allocated.
And now Columbus, in a special law, will have to give property tax money to charter schools run by David Brennan, owner of White Hat, Inc.
White Hat is the state's largest for-profit charter-management company and Brennan and associates are the largest political campaign contributors to Republican leadership among the charter school interests.
