July 31, 2014. Tankovitch is officially a Felon.

Columbus Dispatch, July 31.  ex-data-czar-is-expected-to-accept-felony-charge

Left feeling kind of hollow here. So, in the end, Tankovitch and I are in the same boat. Both of us retired, and not able to work in our chosen profession anymore. He retired with a lot more money, but I am not a felon. I would have liked CCS to try to claw back the $60,000 he took to retire the first time. His policies hurt a lot of students, and the pressure on the staff at Kingswood hurt a lot of employees.

Before Judge Patrick E. Sheeran in Franklin County Common Pleas Court today, Tankovich’s lawyer explained that Tankovich devised his system of withdrawing, then re-enrolling, absentee students because he didn’t feel the district should be held accountable for kids who missed a lot of school. It was an issue of fairness, Mark C. Collins said.
Collins said after the hearing that many people in education circles knew about the process of withdrawing and re-enrolling students, including Tankovich's former boss, Gene Harris, who retired as superintendent last year.
"These types of concepts were discussed at meetings, they were discussed at statewide meetings. They were discussed at meetings where Gene Harris was there," Collins said.
The judge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and scheduled sentencing for Oct. 16. He released Tankovich on a $5,000 recognizance bond.

The attempted tampering charge could bring a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

As part of the plea deal, Tankovich has agreed to cooperate and serve as a witness in cases against others.
