The GOP-backed law that created the parent trigger was inserted into the state budget bill in 2011. It takes effect this year and allows parents in Columbus Schools — and only Columbus schools — to petition for changes if their school performs poorly for at least three years. Although labeled a pilot, it has no expiration date. State lawmakers approved the trigger after former Columbus Superintendent Gene Harris volunteered the district to test the idea.
District schools ranked in the bottom 5 percent in academics statewide for three consecutive years qualify for the option, allowing parents to choose new management and teachers if 50 percent of a school’s parents submit a petition demanding it.
--that rule just stinks of Tankovitch! I am sure he told Gene he could make sure that trigger was never activated as long as he had control of data scrubbing!
